THE VINTAGE MENS SUIT
In the past when you thought about a woman wearing a suit, you’d think about an unflattering blazer, a white blouse (blouse is such a terrible word), possibly a pencil skirt and some unattractive court shoes! Thank goodness those days are behind us, nowadays a suit can be worn so many cool and versatile ways. We’re rocking them casually with a t-shirt and trainers, or even dressed up for evening with a sleek camisole and high heels (or flats) and a red lip.
I had been on the hunt for a neutral coloured oversized suit, in the style of the Frankie Shop set I had been stalking on their website (and their instagram, and other multi-brand e-tailer sites, you get the drift). However, on my journey to being a more sustainable shopper I have learnt to always try and find what I’m looking for on the second-hand market, which is not always an easy feat. Whether it's eBay, vintage dealers or just local charity shops, you can find some really great alternatives.
And boy did I find a great alternative!
On a casual stroll to the park I decided to pop into my local Mind charity shop. I perused the ladies section for a while then went over to the mens section where I saw something resembling my Wishlist suit…
I pulled the hanger out and lo-and behold, it was a Paul Smith mens suit for an insane price; £15…yes fifteen pounds!
TOP TIP
Do not ignore the mens section, can find some real gems there!
I have yet to have the trousers tailored, but I used a trick from one of my favourite content creators Karen Blanchard and attached the metal fastener to one of the belt loops to make the trousers fit. I added my £1 vintage leather belt, a ribbed Weekday vest, my Acne Studios tote bag and Calvin Klein boots and this was the final look.
